Once again: 11 fics, this time in 11 fandoms. My main fic:

Every Sundown (10515 words) for Trismegistus
Fandom: Imperial Radch - Ann Leckie
Rating: Teen
Relationships: Seivarden/Breq
Summary:
Breq is a traitor, a rebel, and a captain a thousand years out of date. Mercy of Seivarden is drifting without a crew.

I'm always a little scared of writing Radch fic, but I love love love Breq and Seivarden's relationship! I got the idea right away to write a roleswap where Breq was the captain and Seivarden was the ship. I got really into it and ended up writing... too much. As usual it turned into a last minute panic to edit it, so thanks immensely to tweedymcgee for the beta help!

10 more fics of varying length under the cut! Vantablack pigment feud, The Happytime Murders, Megalo Box, The Way of the House Husband, Rivers of London, Inspector Rebus, Dirk Gently (TV 2016), Squirrel Girl, Transformers: Shattered Glass, and Nero Wolfe )

Hope everyone had a good Yuletide!! And if you have recs they'd be super welcome, as usual I've been too busy to really dig through the archive.

Hello internet! I'm a doctor now! I brought you Deadpool porn (angst) (fix-it) (porn).

Just As Thick As My Skin
Fandom: Deadpool (movies)
Rating: adult
(Explicit sex, swearing, disturbing imagery, discussions of suicide and grief, and bad (but well-intentioned) consent practices. It's very silly. It's a Deadpool fic.)
Relationships: Vanessa/Wade, Wade/Cable, Vanessa/Wade/Cable
Wordcount: 6000ish
Summary:
Threesomes solve everything.

(Threesomes do not solve everything. But sometimes they're fun.)

The Enchanting Wedding of Magica de Spell
Disney Ducks (comics)
Summary: "You are cordially invited to celebrate the wedding of Magica De Spell (witch) and Rosolio (fully trained magician) this All Hallows' Eve. You may bring a guest."

My yuletide gift this year is cute, fun, and EXTREMELY satisfying - basically everything that I ever wanted! 8k of pg Disney Ducks fic, Magica de Spell/Gladstone Gander accidental marriage and adventure. Featuring: a villain who’s not very good at being bad, a hero who’s only heroic when pestered, and a raven who is going to make this work or someone’s losing an eyeball. Guest starring: one of the best versions of Scrooge I’ve ever read, some truly great cameos from the Beagle Boys, and a volcano.
I read a bunch of duck comics when I was a kid, and I watched some of the shows, but @modmad‘s Magica & Gladstone fancomics really brought me back into the fandom this year. I’m so glad someone picked up my desperate pleas prompt and ran with it!

Hello hello! For those wondering, I did survive Yuletide and I DID write 11 fics. Which is... all of the fic I managed to post in 2016. So look forward to seeing an in-depth analysis of these fics in a couple days when I get my act together and do the year in review.

First, though, let's talk about the AMAZING fic I received:

Lapidary (3367 words) by Parhelion
Fandom: Nero Wolfe - Rex Stout
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Archie Goodwin/Saul Panzer
Summary: Saul brings his hobby to work; Archie decides he wants both cake and pie.

Nero Wolfe novels sort of define my early-to-mid-teens, and I think I first decided that Yuletide was an amazing thing because there were three (three!!) Archie/Saul fics buried in their old archive website. It’s the wisecracking sappy professionals ship of my heart. And this fic Gets It and also has an amazing vision of the Nero Wolfe universe from Saul’s pov:

If you haven’t heard of Mr. Wolfe, he was the one Manhattan P.I. back in the thirties able to handle cases where the brother-in-law maybe did it with a silver spoon in the conservatory, but you had to have brain-power, out-talk a white-shoe lawyer, and win access to a Tiffany bracelet to prove it. I found such affairs to be nice little vacations. Mr. Wolfe, like most national monuments, was always something to see. Archie Goodwin, who was Mr. Wolfe’s associate in charge of bracelet-accessing, was a friend of mine.

Parhelion has written several Archie/Saul fics and they’re all great - I feel so lucky to have received this new one. Check it out!

(And also read the Nero Wolfe novels - I’ve already gotten a few friends hooked, you could be next.)

On to what I wrote:

Catch You When You Drop (6211 words) for perdiccas
Fandom: Rivers of London - Ben Aaronovitch
Rating: General Audiences
Characters: Beverley Brook, Oxley (Rivers of London)
Summary:
Draft message to Peter Grant
look maybe i dont want to find myself in the country maybe i wanted to stay comfortable and happy in london maybe i wanted to keep fighting with the thames boys maybe it was kind of fun

Beverley right after the end of the first book, trying hard to adjust to being out of London and also get hot water in her caravan. As usual I just wish I had more time to rewrite this properly, but I am proud that I managed to conceive a reasonable amount of fic and write it in a reasonable amount of time, rather than Last Year. I even managed to get everything posted well before the deadline, although as usual I was surprised by how much trouble the AO3 servers have with Yuletide and ended up stressing out as I tried to get things posted through the 500 errors.

treat fics under the cut. More RoL, Discworld, Johannes Cabal, Baseball, Matthew Swift, and a couple small fandoms )

(Please give me Yuletide recs if you have any - I'm too overwhelmed to go diving, but I do love Yuletide and Yuletide fics and I want to read more than the three I've done so far.)

ALSO I am a disaster area who is always forgetting to talk about the cool things people are doing with my fic. So here are three belated things:

Kollega translated my Doctor Who fic The Most Secret Diary into Russian, which can be found here. She ALSO sent me some comments translated from Russian to English, which was awesome and saved me from awkward google translate (I am always hungry for comments).

[personal profile] juniperphoenix made a podfic of my Doctor Who fic Young Men and Fast Cars, which can be found here. It's a really good reading that completely captures the tone I was trying for :)

More recently, petercapaldi on tumblr (who assures me that they are the real Peter Capaldi, definitely) made a fanmix based on my Hawkeye fic Life of Crime, which can be found here. I have been listening to this over and over while unpacking/studying/lying around uselessly, it is a good time.

Quick life stuff update: I went home for two weeks and now I am back in grad school land, where I have been doing a little bit of work but have mostly been lying around and coaching and being kind of sick. Coaching is FRUSTRATING but actually going really well?? No one will do what I think they should except for when it suddenly works. For example today I had to scold one of the kids for hitting too hard and make his friends scold him etc and he was totally blowing me off and I was going to murder him... Except then he stopped hitting so hard and started being a little more controlled and won the competition. I am proud and annoyed. I have to hang out with all of these kids for allllll of next weekend while we ride a bus all over the place and fence and ride back, haha. I will probably not murder any of them.

I got up at 6am and coached from 7.30 to 4.30 and I feel like I am slowly collapsing in on myself. Currently I am sitting around in someone else's house with someone else's dog, as part of a 'write things' party. So far I have written one entire email, filled out part of an application for a summer program, done that Yuletide repost, done some tag wrangling, and responded to a few comments! And written this post. I am not sure if this is an illusion of productivity or actual productivity.

Yooo, I have had a stressful/dead-line filled past few days, full of little sleep and a surprise mouse corpse in the sink. So I am doing this WIP meme! I am going to post favorite lines or SOMETHING from the... seven WIPs certainly sitting on my desktop waiting for me to survive the last week of term. It would be nine, but I can't mess with the Yuletide-related ones.

If you want to know more about any of the WIPs, just ask and I will happily babble. And feel free to take this chance and post your own WIP stuff, because I'm always interested to know what people are working on.

Here is the fic I've been working on for the last month! It doesn't fill any of my left-over idfic summer bingo squares, because apparently I am being consumed by a different kind of id lately.

Try, Try Again

Marvel Comics/Agent X and Deadpool
Rating: teen
(Kissing, swearing, canon-typical violence)
Characters: Taskmaster, Deadpool
Wordcount: 12,000ish
Summary: Taskmaster has lost his weapons, his mask, and an increasing amount of his memory. Good thing Deadpool's here to help. Wait, bad thing. I meant bad thing.
A/N: Basically, I got really excited about the idea that Taskmaster's photographic reflexes could push out declarative memory. Then I read the 2010 miniseries and realized that it'd been done, haha. But I'd already written 10,000 words, so here it is anyway! 12k of Deadpool and Taskmaster and memory loss shenanigans. Just roll with it, I guess, and don't expect much compliance with any of the 2010-on canon.

Yes! Update! I am still alive!

Since the semester ended in May, I've been in Kansas, Texas, New York, Boston, New York again, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and finally New York for real this time, hopefully. I drove to all of these places. I went to a graduation, did the last weekend of one faire, went to a fencing competition, visited friends, went to a wedding, went to a different fencing competition (just to observe), visited family, and then collapsed in a heap. Yaaaaay.

Next order of business - do all this summer RA work, study for my big exam in September, and work the summer faire. So, actually, a lot.

Meanwhile I am suffering a comics-fandom relapse and also getting really into baseball for some reason? I have been on tumblr more than usual (which is to say, once every two weeks or so), and if you would like to observe my baseball-fandom spiral I would check this tag.

Also a friend of mine was working with one of the guys who worked on By the Sword today. I told my friend to relay the fact that I am THE BIGGEST FAN, but I am not sure if that happened. Still. Gosh.

This is a really disjointed post, but I felt like I needed to get this through before I could make more substantive posts, I guess? I have a post about relationships and normalizing poly through fanfic that I want to write up, but idk when I will have the energy to make that happen. Maybe Monday. I also need to get through the last couple idfic summer self-prompts, but currently I am working on a Taskmaster/Deadpool fic that does not fill ANY of the remaining prompts and is also highly absurd. And obscure. Only six more prompts to go! It'll get done eventually.

Anyway, yes. Many things. Yep.

I have finished posting my Hawkeye epic, so I am posting here to let people know! Very exciting. I realize some people do not think of 35k as an epic, but this is 101 fricking pages of Clint Barton being ridic so I think I can call it an epic if I want.

Life of Crime
Marvel (Comics)/Hawkeye
Rating: adult
(Content notes in each chapter heading. Contains explicit sex and canon-typical violence/character injury.)
Characters: Clint/Natasha, eventual Clint/Carol Danvers and Clint/Bucky/Natasha, Kate Bishop/America Chavez, Barney Barton, lots of other people.
Wordcount (total): 35,000ish
Summary: As a supervillain supercriminal contract worker with a morality deficit, Clint Barton leads a glamorous life. You know, stolen cars, dangerous women, a really confusing relationship with a meddling do-gooder, the works. It's pretty awesome. Except for, uh, medical bills, the mob, and being on the run all the time. That part isn't all that awesome.
(A supervillain AU where Clint shoots arrows at people and gets beat up a lot. So, not really that much of an AU.)

Read it on the AO3!

Here is that giant fic I've been working on! It's the longest thing I think I've ever finished (just barely beating out that historical Two Whofic). Clint-centric Marvel Comics fic, sub-titled "I realized that I am an adult and no one can stop me." It's getting posted in chapters over the next few weeks at the AO3, so I am going to give you this first notice and then another one when it is done, so that I don't have to post 8 chapters of fic in multiple places.

I've finished the first draft of my new epic Marvel Comics AU. It's Clint/Carol Danvers, Clint/Natasha, and Clint/Natasha/Bucky. It's currently 23,000 words. There are pretty much an equal ratio of action scenes/sex scenes/Clint being injured and lying around his apartment scenes. It needs a lot of work. It's tentatively titled "I realized that I am an adult and no one can stop me."

Anyway, does anyone want to help me with this monstrosity? I realize I've made it sound super attractive, haha. It really is a silly indulgent mess, but I think it'll be fun when it's finished. No canon knowledge required, since I don't think even an extreme Marvel fan would get my dumb Nextwave jokes.
neveralarch: (Default)
But first - my giftfic! Joanne_c wrote One Night In A Castle for me and I ADORE it and maybe you will love it too. It is Lion in Winter rpf. If you have not seen A Lion in Winter you should definitely see it. If you are not aware of the ridiculousness of the actors involved in the movie (including the late greats Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn) you should check that out also.

Here is what I wrote:

Team The Best Team (5715 words), for defcontwo
Elementary (TV), Teen. Marcus Bell/Ms. Hudson/Alfredo Llamosa, Joan Watson and Sherlock Holmes
Summary: Marcus gets along really well with Holmes' friends.

My assigned fic! I wrote it in like... four days, and lyryk was super awesome and beta'd it for me. It was a lot of fun to focus on the side-characters, and it was interesting to write reasonable, practical characters who can actually just decide to go on a date instead of having to angst about it forever, haha. Also I am glad I finally got a full-sized Elementary fic off the ground, I have three in my WIPs. (Aaaand this fills my M/F/M threesome square in my idfic bingo, because I can make yuletide work for me.)

And then I wrote my 10 treat-fics on the 23rd and 24th:

cut for scrolling purposes )

And that's the lot! Going to start replying to comments tomorrow, it might take a while. Hopefully I'll get some recs in soon-ish - I'm maybe half-way through the archive right now, so it'll probably be mid-January before I'm ready for recs.

These are happier things! Fandom-y things. Also slightly self-aggrandizing things, but whatever, I am fine with that.

One, I just discovered that I was recced on TVTropes. This makes me feel pretty good, not because I'm on the site, but because the troper picked my ridic Skyfall Elizabethan AU and it reminded me that I wrote a ridic Skyfall Elizabethan AU. Good times. Was that seriously only six months ago?

Two, that Hawkeye comic that astridv drew based on my story got recced on the Forbidden Planet International blog. I can claim little/no credit for the comic, but dude. Dude.

Three, I've signed up for the Doctor Who remix, and you should too! I miss the bigger remix challenge, but I wrote DW every year that I participated, so this won't be that different.

I think that's it? I don't want to spam three posts at you, haha. I'll call this it. (Especially since it took me forty minutes to post this, jeez. My internet is super spotty at the moment.)
neveralarch: (Default)
People have made new fanwork out of my fanwork! Like, two weeks ago. I am really bad about talking about these things in a timely manner.

astridv has finished her AMAZING comic of my Hawkeye fic (Afternoon Stroll), so you can find all five pages here. It's gorgeous and astridv drew a lot of motorcycles, which is above and beyond for any artist. You should totally check it out.

Also, einzwitterion has podficced Afternoon Stroll, and you can find that here. It's awesome. (She's also been podficcing Welcome to Night Vale fics, and I def recommend checking those out as well, because she's choosing some awesome ones to do.)

That's it for now! Hope everyone had a great weekend.

I was gone for a weekend again! This time the power went out and we had to do a faire day on a generator (awful) and then Saturday night I somehow managed to ruin my shoulder/neck muscles and then had to work with it for my normal 12 hour day on Sunday (awfulest)! My neck etc is still very tight so I can't type much - it's loosening up and I have high hopes for tomorrow, but I'll have to keep this short.

Two main things I would like to talk about besides my stressful weekend:

I am in another zine! 'Welcome to 616' is a Marvel fanzine put together by grey_bard, and they asked me if they could put Afternoon Stroll in there. It's a cool zine with some good art and fic, and you can find a pdf of it at this post. (A friend of mine is also talking about doing a podfic of Afternoon Stroll, which will mean that you can find it as fic, as a comic, in print, and as audio. This is either awesome or ridiculous or both.)

Welcome to Night Vale! Just - just Welcome to Night Vale. I'm in awe of how quickly it's taking over the internet and even my meatspace friends. If I haven't talked to you about it, are you listening to WtNV? If not, can I persuade you to do so? My brother has, and now we just talk about it all the time. He occasionally changed his hawking line this weekend from 'I scream, you scream, we all scream for apple dumplings with ice cream!' to 'I scream, you scream, we all scream at the meaninglessness of existence!' It was beautiful. This could be you. (Except without having to sell apple dumplings for 9 hours.)

So, yeah. Zine for download, talk to me about WtNV (or let me talk to you). I think that covers it.

Still dying of papers. Feeling a little less dying than before, though. About two weeks until I need to be out of here.

ANYWAY, I saw Iron Man 3 today and it was totally rad.

lots of spoilers under the cut, this is an especially good spoiler-free movie so be careful with this cut ok )

Basically, I saw this movie about 12 hours ago and spent the rest of the day doing a bunch of dry academic stuff and yet I am still capslocking and giggling about Iron Man 3. Do you want to talk about this movie? I am all about that. Talk about this movie with me.
neveralarch: (Default)
This was basically done last summer, but I'm posting it now because I want it out of my wips folder! I would apologize for the delay, but no one was waiting for this! I feel like I should apologize for the fic in general, but I'm not going to! The heart wants what it wants.

I Want a New
The Avengers
Rating: gen
Characters: Bruce Banner, Avengers ensemble
Wordcount: 2,100ish
Summary: The radiation changed Bruce. But not into the Hulk. (Extremely cracky AU for the movie.)
A/N: Half-credit/blame for the original idea goes to my brother Elijah.

Let me mention my giftfic again real quick first: A Pain in My SideKICK (The Non-Adventures of Wonderella) and Nonstarter (By the Sword), both by leidolette who is apparently a stellar human being. They're awesome.

Here is what I wrote:

Some Time Before (7080 words), for anstaar
Discworld, Teen. Sybil Ramkin/Samuel Vimes, Adora Belle Dearheart/Moist von Lipwig
Summary: The thing about being young is that it happens to most everyone.

My assigned fic! I was deeply uncertain about this as I was writing it, but people liked it and I think it must have turned pretty well after all. And it has four of my favorite Discworld characters in it, so.

And then I wrote ten treats while not writing a term paper:

these are cut to save your scrolling )

The end! Tomorrow I start replying to comments, and then I will finally stop talking about Yuletide for at least nine months.

What have I been doing in the last tennish days? Work. All of the work. I am just keeping up with grad school and the ren faire, which I think means I'll be in a really comfortable place after this weekend, since the faire is closing. Right now is a huge pain, though - I think I'm going to have to miss a fencing practice this week, and probably some sleep too. Did I say that I started going to the club fencing here? It's fun, very chill, but with some good people. I'm still rusty from my summer doing nothing, but I'm getting more into it. Last week I fenced this guy and lost 0-5 doing dumb stuff, but I recognized that and asked him if we could fence again at the end of practice, and I won 5-0 by... not doing dumb stuff. So that's good! I worry about falling into a rut, especially when I'm tired so often.

But I do have time to do some fannish stuff! I did Yuletide nominations, with arts and sciences RPF (Kahneman and Tversky), By the Sword (obviously), and The Non-Adventures of Wonderella (because my noms needed more badass women). All approved, because I only pick fandoms that are totally out there/nonexistent.

I've stalled out a little on watching the Wire, due to lack of time, but I'm planning on picking it back up after the weekend. In the meantime, I'm reading Fullmetal Alchemist about 2-8 years late. Which is, wow, bringing back memories. Like, I hadn't read FMA before, but it was pretty much my first reading fandom way back when. I was so into Archer/Kimblee and Greed/Kimblee. Hanging out on Y!Gallery at 17, feeling guilty about hitting the 'over 18' button and compulsively searching out the Kimblee artists. He just showed up in the manga (at chapter, what, 50? Out of about 100?), and I squeaked a little.

cut a little to preserve your flist. Basically, I have developed a theory of my own fannish attachments. )

Avengers
Rating for all chapters: adult
(content notes, this chapter: lots of arguments, with a brief threat of violence; action scenes involving actual violence and character injury; kissing.)
Characters: Clint/Bruce/Natasha, Tony Stark, Maria Hill, Nick Fury, Victor von Doom
Wordcount (total): 25,000 (this chapter): 5,000ish
Summary: Post-New York, Clint's still having trouble dealing with the whole Loki-controlling-his-brain situation, and Natasha seems to be avoiding him. Bruce Banner, meanwhile, just wants to get back to Kolkata.
