Gallifrey fic! Ignore the nonsensical title.

On Her Tip-Toes
Doctor Who, Gallifrey audios
Rating: pg
(some minor violence)
Characters: Romana and Antonin from Reborn, John Benton and Mike Yates
Wordcount: 4,600ish
Summary: Romana goes on her adventure, with special guest Antonin.
A/N: Written for universal-invariant as part of the [community profile] morepolitics fic exchange! Universal-invariant prompted anything with the alternate Romana from Reborn, and I hope this suits (even though it turned out to have a lot of Antonin in it). Thanks to the amazing [personal profile] aralias for betaing!

Quick quick update to say that my laptop is fine, the keyboard is dead and I'm getting a new one to replace it, and this usb keyboard is working fine for now. Very very glad to have a mostly working computer, and I've gotten one of those keyboard covers which is supposed to prevent spills from getting into your laptop because...yeah, I'm still going to eat things in the vicinity of my computer, I only have one table/desk.

Headed out to Iowa for a fencing competition, so I'll be gone all tomorrow. Between all of the reading this week (900 pages, wtf), the computer troubles, and life in general, I'm looking forward to a day of just having to drive around and hit people with swords.

BUT BEFORE I GO, a driveby rec for Doctor Who fic - which I don't seek out much anymore, but I saw something on who_otp, and then ran into this.

Sproid has several adorable UNIT slashfics posted, which is highly relevant to my interests and possibly to your interests? I particularly liked R&R in the Lethbridge-Stewart-Benton-Yates Household (John Benton/Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewart/Mike Yates, short fluff), and Benton and Yates in Daring Escape from Aliens (John Benton/Mike Yates, longer actiony fic).

Last fic post before my winter break is over! Time for some depressing stuff about the Gallifrey crew and the Time War, naturally. I wrote about half of this all the way back in 2010, then wrote the rest of it last week. Sometimes my process is delayed. Anyway:

Times Such as These
Doctor Who, Gallifrey Audios
Rating: teen
(war-time situations, off-screen character death)
Characters: Romana, Narvin, Braxiatel, Leela, Eight, the Master, K-9
Wordcount: 4,700ish
Summary: The Time War is too large and complex and confusing to be viewed in generalities. Four personal stories from the War.

Let me mention my giftfic again real quick first: A Pain in My SideKICK (The Non-Adventures of Wonderella) and Nonstarter (By the Sword), both by leidolette who is apparently a stellar human being. They're awesome.

Here is what I wrote:

Some Time Before (7080 words), for anstaar
Discworld, Teen. Sybil Ramkin/Samuel Vimes, Adora Belle Dearheart/Moist von Lipwig
Summary: The thing about being young is that it happens to most everyone.

My assigned fic! I was deeply uncertain about this as I was writing it, but people liked it and I think it must have turned pretty well after all. And it has four of my favorite Discworld characters in it, so.

And then I wrote ten treats while not writing a term paper:

these are cut to save your scrolling )

The end! Tomorrow I start replying to comments, and then I will finally stop talking about Yuletide for at least nine months.

Fic: Tiller

Tiller
Classic Who
Rating: teen
(kissing and nakedness.)
Characters/ships: Leela/TARDIS, Four
Wordcount: 2000ish words
Summary: The first thing Leela does when she gets into the Doctor's ship is try to make sure that he can't get her out again.
A/N: Written for merryghoul as part of the dw_femslash ficathon, and very kindly betaed by evilawyer! I ended up writing TARDIS femslash rather than specifically Idris femslash - I hope that's okay. (Also, there's a bit of a stealth crossover here, but Leela's TV canon is all you need to know for the fic.)

Guess who finished their DW femslash fic? Me. It was way more done already than I had thought, although that's making me uneasy about whether or not parts still need to be fleshed out. so I'm looking for a beta - it's classic Who, about 2,000 words, currently rated teen (although the rating might go up during edits). It's not due until next weekend, so there's a relatively good amount of turn-around time. Anyone? Thanks in advance!

What have I been doing in the last tennish days? Work. All of the work. I am just keeping up with grad school and the ren faire, which I think means I'll be in a really comfortable place after this weekend, since the faire is closing. Right now is a huge pain, though - I think I'm going to have to miss a fencing practice this week, and probably some sleep too. Did I say that I started going to the club fencing here? It's fun, very chill, but with some good people. I'm still rusty from my summer doing nothing, but I'm getting more into it. Last week I fenced this guy and lost 0-5 doing dumb stuff, but I recognized that and asked him if we could fence again at the end of practice, and I won 5-0 by... not doing dumb stuff. So that's good! I worry about falling into a rut, especially when I'm tired so often.

But I do have time to do some fannish stuff! I did Yuletide nominations, with arts and sciences RPF (Kahneman and Tversky), By the Sword (obviously), and The Non-Adventures of Wonderella (because my noms needed more badass women). All approved, because I only pick fandoms that are totally out there/nonexistent.

I've stalled out a little on watching the Wire, due to lack of time, but I'm planning on picking it back up after the weekend. In the meantime, I'm reading Fullmetal Alchemist about 2-8 years late. Which is, wow, bringing back memories. Like, I hadn't read FMA before, but it was pretty much my first reading fandom way back when. I was so into Archer/Kimblee and Greed/Kimblee. Hanging out on Y!Gallery at 17, feeling guilty about hitting the 'over 18' button and compulsively searching out the Kimblee artists. He just showed up in the manga (at chapter, what, 50? Out of about 100?), and I squeaked a little.

cut a little to preserve your flist. Basically, I have developed a theory of my own fannish attachments. )

Everything okay after a day of driving, except when I was getting ready to leave this morning, we discovered that my cat had made a bid for escape. He finally came in at 9pm, when I was in the middle of Illinois, bluh. Turns out that he had gone outside yesterday and then never decided to come in again, probably because he knew I was packing. Luckily Mom is driving to Kansas about a week and a half from now, so she's going to drive west and drop my cat off with me before continuing south to her actual destination. Way more inconvenient for everyone involved, but that's cats for you.

Spent most of the trip relistening to the UNIT BFAs - I'd forgotten how much I liked the first couple, and then how much the next couple completely freaked me out. Considering not listening to the last one, though it's kind of against my completist instincts and my fondness for Brimmicombe-Wood...

New computer is new! And working! Although I haven't really figured out the keyboard yet. Anyway, here is a fic repost that I planned to do a month ago.

The Most Secret Diary
Doctor Who
Rating: adult
(sex, some very minor violence.)
Characters: Three/Delgado!Master and Jo/Delgado!Master, Sergeant Benton
Wordcount: 3,300ish
Summary: From a prompt: The Doctor finds Jo's very secret diary in which she's written at length about how attractive she finds the Master. The Doctor tries to prevent any sort of romantic entanglements, and some threatening aliens get involved.
A/N: originally posted here for a prompt on the best_enemies anonmeme. Part XXII of the unanoning mission!

Doing some reposting! It's been a little while. Sorry about the kind of boring summary (summaries are hard).

Midnight Oil
Doctor Who
Rating: teen
(drug use, kissing, mentions of sex.)
Characters: Eight/Roberts!Master
Wordcount: 960ish
Summary: The Doctor smokes opium while the Master tries to sleep.
A/N: originally posted here for a prompt on the best_enemies anonmeme. Part XXI of the unanoning mission!

I am still sick, but well enough to be bored and well enough to write, so I am working on my to-do list.

This is a commentary for Common Issues in Child Care (gen Gallifrey fic)! It was requested slightly less than a year ago by aralias. I live up to my commitments! Very slowly. If you want to read the commentary, I suggest reading the original fic first, because I probably spoil the plot with my commentary, and I definitely spoil the pacing.

If, for some reason, you have always wanted to hear my thoughts on my fic, I'm always taking requests. You probably will not have to wait a year, since I currently have very little to do.

This is written DVD-style, with comments in bold and fic in... non-bold. Sorry about any weird formatting - my copy of word doesn't play well with DW/LJ.

I did a remix! I realize author reveals were a little while ago, but I'm getting around to it now, haha.

Gearbox (The Won't Miss a Piece Remix)
Doctor Who
Rating: gen
(no warnings)
Characters: Seven, Ace, and a bunch of Doctors and companions.
Wordcount: 6,000ish
Summary: “How does the TARDIS work?” asks Ace.
A/N: Written for Remix Redux 10, for roachpatrol. A remix of Ad Astra Per Anatis, which is fascinating and people should read. Betaed by aralias, who is an excellent person who puts up with my remix-instigated Ace fixation.

(Link to the fic on the AO3)

It was fun remixing roachpatrol! I've been following her writing for about... two years? Three? Regardless, I'm familiar, so it was more about picking apart the thoughts I already had, rather than working out something new. I did have to do some rewriting, and ended up getting uncomfortably close to the deadline, but I think it all worked out well.

a couple other thoughts and some bonus remix drabbles )

I was remixed! Someone took Adrenaline and Endorphins and turned it into Begin As You Mean to Go On. It's a really great Theta/Koschei piece with some interesting character dynamics and science tinkering and all-nighters, and I love it, oh man. Adrenaline and Endorphins is one of those anonmeme fics where I didn't quite have a handle on what I was trying to say, and I feel like the remix really teased out the main points of the fic. So, yeah. If you are a Doctor/Master fan like most of my flist, I definitely recommend checking it out.

Meanwhile, I'm starting to catch upon my life. This week I turned in my thesis (59 pages and out of my hands, yessss), turned in my last paper for one class, did my mock thesis defense, and did a presentation for another class. Now I just have the final production for my student magazine this weekend, my actual defense on Tuesday, a (probably easy) final in about 10 days, and a final paper on the 11th and I am DONE. Take that, undergraduate career! Soon I will have time for actually talking to people! And reading things on the internet! And sleeping! Ahahahahaha!

Today I was talking to my brother very briefly on the phone, and he was like "so, have you written any more fanfic lately?"

"Uh," I said, perpetually confused by the fact that people know I write fic, despite the fact that EVERYONE knows, "uh, yes." (Then the pause as I tried to remember what I've written lately that isn't mostly explicit sex and murder and also psychology metaphors.) "Oh! I've written Gallifrey fic! With prirates!"

"Pirates?" says he. "Are they piratey?"

"...yes."

"Are they piratical?"

"Yeah."

"Are they-"

"It has pirates in it. That is all." My brother is enamored of redundancy.

"Does it have Pirates of Penzance references?"

"No-o," say I, but of course that is a lie, as I realize when I pull up the fic on my laptop. "Wait! It's called The Very Model!"

This is when he started singing I Am the Very Model of a Gallifreyan Buccaneer.

This is all to say, my brother is Quality, especially when we are not in the same state and can't physically fight. I'm not sure how we're going to survive a MONTH ALONE TOGETHER after I graduate, but I guess it'll have to involve more Gilbert and Sullivan and BFAs.

Hopefully this works, I am uncertain about SoundCloud and how it is a thing.

The Caged Cinema
Written and read by neveralarch
Doctor Who
Rating: adult
(sex, BDSM themes [sensory deprivation])
Characters: Shalka!Doctor/Shalka!Master
Length: 24ish minutes
Summary: The Doctor plays mechanic.

I recorded this at the same time as all those shorter podfics, but I haven't had time to check it over and post. But there! It is done.

(If you have read this fic before, I hope you were imagining the Doctor's voice during most of it as the default voice of the free windows screenreader, because that is how I read it and it makes the whole thing even more deeply awkward, I think.)
neveralarch: (Default)
I acquired a microphone on Sunday, for a SECRET PROJECT which I will probably be working on for quite a while with nothing to show for it as of yet. But while I was testing the microphone and retraining myself on audacity, I recorded a bunch of very short podfic of my own stories. It's all in very small fandoms, so I don't know if anyone will be interested, but I figured I'd let people know anyway.

Also, concrit is super appreciated at the moment, as I have no idea what I'm doing. Unless it's about how I mispronounce things, because I know I do that and I try to correct it, but it's unfortunately going to keep happening until I learn how to pronounce ALL the words, haha.

Under the cut: podfic for Dinosaur Comics, Doctor Who BFA, Journey to the West, Making Fiends, and Tintin. )

The Very Model
Doctor Who, Gallifrey audios
Rating: teen
(some violence and character injury, swearing.)
Characters: Romana, Braxiatel, Narvin, Leela, K-9, Darkel, Torvald, Arkadian, and various minor characters (more or less gen)
Wordcount: 10,000ish
Summary: Being the tale of how Admiral Romana kept her job, how Rear-Admiral Braxiatel fought off the empire's enemies, how Leela of the Sevateem gained an audience with the Admirality, and how Captain Narvin was irritated by just about everyone. (A Gallifrey/Age of Sail fusion, where most of the characters are still Time Lords, even though that doesn't make much sense when they're on wooden ships.)
A/N: Written for hoshinekoyasha, for the Gallifreyathon on morepolitics! It is based on the prompt 'Pirates.' I hope this is okay, even if there aren't nearly as many pirates in it as I had hoped.
Thanks to the amazing aralias for the beta, and generally for running an awesome fic exchange which is always a pleasure to take part in.

alternative title: Narvin and the Cargo of Rice, even though that makes NO sense. )

There's this story going around about a Doctor Who/Star Trek comic crossover that sounds cool and everything. But the important thing from that link:

Doctor Who has never before engaged in any such crossover outside its own universe. The closest it has come was Dimensions in Time, the much-derided 1993 Children in Need special that featured characters from soap opera EastEnders.

LIES. The Seventh Doctor met Death's Head in Doctor Who Magazine #135! And Death's Head was/is a Marvel character who was in a bunch of books with the Transformers and the X-men and so on. His encounter with the Doctor resulted in him being shrunk by the Master's TCE, and had substantial repercussions for the character in his comic series. Obviously this oversight is a grave error that should be rectified.

(I realize I'm the only person who cares about Death's Head.)
