Life: Finishing Things

So, I spent this weekend finishing things. And when I say things, I do not mean that I actually finished any of my creative projects, the books I have been reading, or even my homework. Bah. Things, in fact, means TV shows.
I watched the last episode of Horatio Hornblower on Saturday, and was incredibly disappointed. Not because it was bad - no! - but because there was obviously so much more of the story to tell. It was like the last episode of Kingdom all over again. Fortunately, Hornblower is superior to Kingdom in that it is based on books, so I'm looking forward to January when I will suddenly have time to read fiction again.
After that, I think something snapped, because I decided to watch the last episode of Life on Mars. I watched all but the last episode last year, and then chickened out, partly because I find Life on Mars incredibly hard to watch, but mostly because I didn't want it to be over. Even though there is a whole sequel show, yes. Anyway, I watched that last night, and it was good! I mean, I still had to have it on mute for about a minute at a time once or twice, but it was cool. I finally have (some sort of) closure.
In between all this, I caught up on QI. I also had no less than five conversations about Stephen Fry this week, which is well past my quota, so that's good. And I started rewatching The Prisoner with one of my friends, so much discussion in the house was about Patrick McGoohan and his amazing intensity. (He pounds his fist on the table and a teacup breaks!)
So, basically, my life this weekend was full of British television. And, incidentally, politics. I think I'm going to start watching The Thick of It next, so I'll be able to combine the two. Consolidation is progress, right?

Date: 2010-10-04 10:51 pm (UTC)i love the end of life on mars like burning, but i know there are others who hate it with the same intensity. those are probably the sort of people who like A2A, though... i am not one of those.
as for hornblower - it was just too damned expensive. there were some really good books coming up, too, with epic sea battles, and epic hornblower/bush trek across occupied france, but the sea battles at least would be even more expensive than the regular stuff they were doing. it is indeed a shame, but the books are good. except mr midshipman hornblower, which is very dull. perhaps iv'e said this to you already, but it bears repeating. that book is boring. the others are good :D

Date: 2010-10-05 02:24 am (UTC)I suspected that about Hornblower, and I understand the need for budgets etc. Still, I'm glad I can go find the books. (And thanks for your advice re: Midshipman Hornblower.)
