I liked the ending of LoM too! I mean, a lot of it made me uncomfortable, but that is par for the course in LoM. And I'm a sucker for ride-into-the-sunset happy endings.
I suspected that about Hornblower, and I understand the need for budgets etc. Still, I'm glad I can go find the books. (And thanks for your advice re: Midshipman Hornblower.)
