hit count meme

I am still crashing post-classes and two days of fencing/pre-finals ridiculousness/general exhaustion, so I figured I'd do the AO3/Teaspoon hit count meme rather than anything useful. It did get kind of long, though. Numbers and some babbling about those numbers under the cut:
Wager, 3340 hits
Yeahhh. I wrote Wager right when Dresden Files fandom was becoming a thing. It was a response to a request on the first page of the first kinkmeme (iirc), and I posted the complete version to the AO3 immediately, rather than with the lag time I usually have. Plus it's for the main slash pairing (Dresden/Marcone). I'm really flattered that people like it so much (though I've since completely dropped out of the DF fandom and don't even read fic there anymore).
The Man with the Fobwatch, 1184 hits
This is just people randomly finding this story, I don't think I've ever posted a link from anywhere to the AO3 for it. It's a Sherlock/Doctor Who crossover, and I actually vaguely like it, which is nice.
Pavlov's Dog, 917 hits
Ahaha, I am very glad that this is up there, because I am still at the point of obsession with Sebastian Moran and I'm glad that at least it resulted in something that people are reading. This is another fic I posted immediately to the AO3 (because it's long).
Tell Everyone About Me, 794 hits
This was a Yuletide Dinosaur comics fic, and a few people read it and it was nice! And the Ryan North discovered the AO3 and linked the Dinosaur Comics category on his twitter, and this fic was the most recent story. It was weird/awesome as I watched the hit count climb for a while, and then the it hasn't changed much since, haha.
Mystery Solving Teens and the Case of the College Application, 581 hits
I'm not sure why this has so many hits? It's Kate Beaton comics fic from Yuletide, and it was in one rec set, I guess.
Spatter, 395 hits
Dunno on this one either. It's Lackadaisy fic - look at all these webcomic Yuletide fics in a row.
Making Captain, 378 hits
Yeah, another Yuletide fic, for Discworld this time. I think this is high just because a lot of people read the whole Discworld category. Also it's Angua/Carrot - I was just having a conversation in person about Angua/Carrot, weird.
Chai! or, the Unhappy Cafe, 306 hits
This is basically my favorite thing that I've written for Yuletide, so I'm glad people liked it. It's a Richard Burton barista AU (written in a haze of history and finals, not in a haze of opiates, despite the speculations of one reccer).
Operator, Operator, 305 hits
Haha, man, first non-crossover Who fic. This one shows up if you search any Doctor/Master pairing involving Simm!Master, basically, so I'm not especially surprised that it's done well. (Also, I have written both of the Six/Simm!Master fics on the AO3, either I have a problem or the rest of fandom does.)
Brinksmanship, 298 hits
Damn. This is the only fic I don't like on this list (possibly the only fic that I've written that I really don't like, haha). It's the second or third fic that I ever posted, and I just. I don't know, I'm not happy with it. Oh well.
So almost all of those fics are long (and were thus posted on AO3 originally) or for Yuletide. No surprises, honestly.
I'm going to do a Teaspoon hit count too, because as aralias points out, Classic Who largely stays away from the AO3. Which makes me sad - the AO3 has really great searching functions and I find it really easily readable in the default settings, which is all I want from an archive. I do like Teaspoon, but since my original Teaspoon binge three years ago, I basically only read fics there if they've been recced on Calufrax. I just find it harder to navigate and it doesn't read well on my phone, so. It is kind of interesting to look at the following list, though, because I upload fics to Teaspoon very slowly and never announce them so it's... a more pure list? Not biased by long fics or fests? Maybe.
Operator, Operator, 1930 hits
Haha, what. Man. I guess this fic is my legacy to DW fandom. I'm at peace with that? Almost.
This was recced on Calufrax, and then Crack Van and Three-Settings, so that explains some of this.
Brinksmanship, 1630 hits
I knew this was super high, that's why I resent this fic, haha. It's been stuck as the first fic on my Teaspoon page since always, even though it's not the first alphabetical fic. I keep meaning to file a bug report and then I don't. I worry that people read this, assume that I am a dubcon-y Ten/Simm!Master shipper and are then a)disappointed or b)click away asap...
I should file a bug report, if only for my peace of mind.
Taxes, 1233 hits
This is the first fic in my commentfic collection. (It's also my favorite, which is why I bumped it to first, haha.)
Recycling, 992 hits
IDK why this is so high. It's Eleven/River/Yana, maybe it got caught up in Eleven/River searches? Or something.
So Far Exceeds Expression, 865 hits
Really long Two/Master with history and random femslash - THIS should be my fandom legacy. Only about a hundred people made it through to the end, though, and I don't blame them. Shit is looong.
The Amazon, 781 hits
Recced on Calufrax again. Which is good, because otherwise I would never have found my target Four/Delgado!Master audience.
Unsuitable Military Headgear, 718 hits
I remember that a couple people randomly found this on the new works Teaspoon list, and then eventually it got recced on doctoreleven, which was cool. I think this is the only piece of episode reaction fic I've ever written, and it's about fezzes (and other hats).
The Caged Cinema, 688 hits
Recced on Calufrax! Man, I love this fic, I am not even apologetic about loving my own fic in this case. I am all about kinky robotics-focused Shalka fic, and if other people (generally) won't write it, I will write it for myself.
Common Issues in Childcare, 686 hits
Another Calufrax rec. I'm surprised any Gallifrey fic is this high on the hit count, but I guess ridiculous babyfic is more accessible than plotty casefic (i.e. On Her Lady President's Secret Service, which has also been recced on Calufrax but has a lower hit count).
The Man I Once Was, 645 hits
Haha, there's the other Six/Simm!Master fic! I don't know why this is so high, probably a boost from the Ten-era category (unless people are searching for Frobisher fic).
So, yeah. I think this is a pretty good list of fics, on both archives. Except for Brinksmanship, man.

Date: 2012-04-29 02:57 am (UTC)Ah! Okay. I keep seeing people say how much easier they find AO3 to read than anywhere else and I keep not understanding why. I like that you can get multiple chapters to open up as one pdf document ('though I have a hard time with the way the text jumps down abruptly when you get near the end of the page --- gives me something like motion sickness) but I've always gotten around that on other sites by telling it to print and then selecting entire story. But I'm always reading from a laptop or desktop screen, never something as dinky as a phone. That's probably got something to do with it, as I'm positive some of the other people who've said it's easier for them than other sites ready off phone and those tiny little notebooks that I can't use.
You are most prolific, by the way.

Date: 2012-04-30 03:51 am (UTC)The page jump that some PDFs get is terrible - I wish I could figure out what setting I need to use to let me always just scroll, without the jump.
