Watched Doctor Who all day today and have to go to class tomorrow- obviously time for another Torchwood reaction post. Might be able to watch the whole thing this week, yay.

Rhys' pyromania makes me happy.
Jack- still balls at polite human interaction. I don't think we can blame the greater openness of 51st century culture anymore.
Bad reassuring PM speech is bad. "There's nothing to suggest we're in any danger." Ahahaha no.
The contrast between Jack and Ianto's families is really interesting, and well-juxtaposed. There's class issues etc, but the big thing is how Ianto manages to let his sister know he's okay and Jack just doesn't even seem to consider his daughter. Where before there were very similar issues of- you never visit except for when you need something, now the relationships are much more interestingly delineated.
Oh god, thievery! I have seen Ianto's trick before, and actually had to chase down a guy who was trying to pull it at a game I was working before. So, on the one hand, the whole criminals thing is cute. But they're also stealing from normal people who have lives, you know, and it kind of loses my sympathy a little.
Okay. I have been in many army surplus stores. I wear army combat boots and a German army coat. I've looked longingly at old aviator helmets. But I've never seen a WWII RAF greatcoat on the rack. Why not? Obviously things are better in Britain.
Things about contacts: they aren't easy to wear. It took me about a month to learn to put mine in immediately and not have them fall out at some point in the day. After some experience you don't have to think about them anymore, but that first little while is not fun. I hope Lois has worn contacts before. More importantly: sharing contacts is not sanitary, EW EW EW. You shouldn't switch contacts between eyes, let alone people. Gwen, if you give your contact pink eye, she is never speaking to you again.
Agh, Jack is so bad at explaining things. Maybe having your team members on the same page as you would be a good idea?
Spears doesn't want to deal with philandering, secretary person. Stop with your intimations!
Hee. Jack's daughter is competent. And I love the throw-away line about her mum teaching the grandson how to deal with home invasions etc.
Frobisher running to make sure he's at the landing site in time and blocking the elevator so no one else can come up is great.
Okay, the 456 are excellent. Creepy and alien, and their biology is doing weird things, and they are very much not the standard humanoid beastie. They're freaking me out, and Frobisher obviously has no idea what to do with them.
Except he does! Frobisher wins out, hooray. Everything will go terribly wrong, but right now he and I are happy because he managed to get through this meeting, achieve his objectives, and not give up anything major. Excellent work.
This series is one long paean to the British civil service. As unenamored as I often am with American civil servants, I harbor great respect for their British counterparts, probably as a result of my study of Victorian England and the Empire. So this: making me go eeeeeee. Every time Frobisher is pushed further up, every time Harkness calls him a nobody and is proven wrong. Yeah, he's being set up for a fall, but he's doing his job, and doing it well.
Oh, God, this Jack + Frobisher confrontation is just. YES. Eeee. (Still watching this wrong.)

Next time: Guns, guns, red lights, doors shutting, guns, Gwen horrified.

tl;dr: writers increasingly share my predilection for the Home Office over the Torchwood team.
