A brief post about futuristic dancing

So, I've been watching this old German science fiction show called Raumpatrouille Orion. It's basically original Star Trek except with slightly better special effects and more emphasis (so far, anyway) on earth-defense than on space exploration. The dialogue's campy, the acting's okay, and the plots are a little haphazard (probably made more so by my iffy comprehension). But. But the vision of the future is amazing.

In the first episode, the team is at a bar, or something. And what follows is, well. Indescribable. So I'm not going to try. (No German required for the video, fyi.)

Yeah. I've watched this scene about five times now, and I still don't know what the guys in the foreground are saying because I keep getting distracted. Fish! Elbow waggling! What.

I just want to know who the choreographer is who came up with this. I'm not sure whether he/she should be praised or handled very carefully, but I want to know either way.

Ahahahaha, oh man, I was so distracted by the fish I didn't even notice the dancing at first. Then I was too distracted by the dancing to pay attention to the conversation (but in the Star Trek version of the future, men never hang around in bars avoiding their wives!). I've never heard of this show before, but maybe my mom knows of it or watched it.

Yeah, I hope the conversation isn't too important to the plot, because I am never going to be able to focus on it.

Apparently this was a fairly popular show in Germany? It came out before Star Trek was translated into German, so it was basically the formative sci-fi experience for a lot of post-war Germans (or so its wikipedia entry says).

My mind wants to tell me that this is how the War Chief would dance with Two if he could. Or the War Lord.

Ha, I think the height difference might make it a bit difficult? The head rolling deal and the crab walk, anyway. But I could totally see the War Lord mandating this dance for his subordinates...
