I have no fic today! Although I did write about 200 words more of my Narvin fic (which is very slow going. But it is a labor of love). Instead I just have some babbling about how my life is currently unsettling me.

My friends and family are inherently fandom-friendly - my parents watch and read sci-fi, I'm living with people who variously consume sci-fi and anime culture and read fanfic, but I'm used to being on a slightly different wavelength then everyone else.

No longer. Last night one of the couples in the house was snuggling on a couch. Not strange in and of itself, but they were also watching a first Doctor serial. (I'm thinking Planet of the Giants, but I was going by sound, so I may be wrong.) One of my friends tagged me in a bunch of pictures she took in Italy. I am not in Italy. She had just tagged me in a picture of a stone angel, with a caption along the lines of "DON'T LOOK! What holds the image of an angel becomes an angel!"

Obviously she is trying to turn me into stone, but whatever.

This was already weird, but then my brother sent me an e-mail, the text of which I will reproduce here.

just watched the doctors daughter, winters= Genny. I am impressed that you did not reveal the reference. cant wait for the new season.

I called him today, and got a sort of explanation: he finished catching up on the new series (earlier he'd only seen seasons 1 and 5 completely, as well as a few random episodes). Winters is apparently River (it was very late, he is excused), and Genny is Jenny. Apparently his theory is that River is Jenny's regeneration which - sort of makes sense, and then it doesn't, and then it's awesome, and then it's incredibly squicky. So like most theories on River that I've heard.

ANYWAY, the point of this is that suddenly people are on the same wavelength as me. It's not as if I didn't know this was coming. I have purposely surrounded myself with Who-fans and encouraged such tendencies in my brother. But! It's weird.

Although I have started watching Hornblower (it is brilliant! And if I watch four more episodes/movie-things, I am rewarded with Paul McGann) so perhaps I'll get to be off in my own little world once more, like when I was watching Life on Mars.

YAY!

I'm so with you on this. My friends and family watch Doctor Who, they know I write fanfic (although they don't all know that I write slash), but they aren't into the fannish "scene" themselves or generally think along fannish lines. And then out of nowhere my Dad will send me a link to a Jack/Ianto vid with a note of "Looks at this! Fans take clips and set them to music! It's cool!" And my brain goes "bzzzzt?"
