The Master would say it sounded like a transparent plea for attention from the Doctor if it didn't sound so much like his first marriage. He and the Rani had made it as far as the Monan Host's homeworld cluster before they broke up.
But, hasn't the Master just proven, by his reflection on his own marital blisslessness (with the Rani --- oh, how I love it!), that it was a transparent plea for the Doctor's attention?
