idfic summer

Okay, so - I have spent the last academic year under the thrall of grad school, and now I am free for the summer. Mostly. Except for three projects and a conference. Like 80% free of grad school.

And the thing is, I've spent all of this spring reading other people's fic and thinking about writing my own fic and not having time and going 'but this summer, dude, you can do it this summer.' And I've also been thinking about what kind of things I find really compelling in fic that I hardly ever write myself, because it's too embarrassing or too self-indulgent or too ooc or WHATEVER. But fanfic is supposed to be fun, right? Which means I should be able to write some of my bullet-proof kinks without feeling guilty.

So I'm declaring an idfic summer. And I always wanted to do a fanfic bingo, so I made myself a bingo card.

Some of these are things I write or used to write all the time, some of these are things I just want to do, and quite a few are things I love when someone else does them but I've just never tried. Also I would like to try and make a fanvid.

I figure I'll just count all of the relevant spaces as marked for each fic/fanwork - none of this one work per square stuff, I'd like to make this reasonably doable. If anyone wants to join me, that would be rad! I will even make you a card if you want (though it will be based just on what I think you like, so probably not super accurate). But either way, when I reference the idfic summer in the future, this is what I'm talking about.

Considering that I a.) like everything you write and I really should comment on your stuff more often even if my only coherent response is something like "!!!!!<3<3!!!!!!!!" and b.) like (most of) the things you got on this bingo card, I am super excited to see what you do with this.

Question: by "clothes porn," do you mean where Character A is wearing clothes so fiiiiine and results in shenanigans with Character B, or do you mean where the clothes are having sex? Because I already wrote the latter because I'm a crazy.

Other Question: curious, but could you define what a "predicament bondage" situation sort of is? (Because my brain is conjuring up something like 'OH NOES CHAINED TO THE WALL IN A RAPIDLY FLOODING DUNGEON BUT OMG SO TURNED ON BY DANGER' in which case you need to go Indiana Jones on that, man, totally. Indiana Jones meets MacGyver in circus/ren faire AU with predicament bondage go go go.)

i meant to comment on some of your other posts... whoops.

but anyway! this one is irresistible. i'm glad you are embracing your id! although funny enough (even though i really like your fic and we are drawn to very similar characters and pairings across the fanzone) very few of your card things would be on my card also - at least... i assume not. historical AU, obviously. and arguing during sex.

i am also intrigued that... you like vampires. but hate cannibalism? intriguing... (as i said).

perhaps you should write some BY THE SWORD fic. since we all went (justifiably) crazy over that yuletide fic. and 'by the sword' (except not justifiably).

talking about kinks - since you wrote that post about cannibalism i've been thinking about liking fandoms where you really dislike something as well - and i don't think i've ever liked a canon that i didn't like something in, but... there are fandoms that embrace a certain reading of canon that i don't like. too much BDSM mostly, and i consider myself to like BDSM in some circumstances. i guess that's what happens when you're interested in pairings with massive power struggles - but i don't feel this necessarily needs to be played out with whips... and in a club.

more than that i've been i've been thinking that maybe what i don't like is PWP stuff - in a lot of doctor/master, we'd label stuff as 'PWP' but then there'd be this massive deal about whether the doctor should sleep with him at all and the master resneting him and stuff and basically - there was almost always a plot, even if it took place within the confines of kink. even in the relatively similar world of blake's 7 fic - there is a tonne of what i consider to be unframed sex stuff. i mean - there's also using sex to work out the plot, but... often too much sex for too little plot, etc etc.

i don't know. there's clearly more to this (i was interested in what the longest and/or most popular fics in doctor who on the AO3 were last night and accidentally stumbled into a/b/o stuff - mostly because the guide to this trope is the most popular doctor who fic. even though as far as i can see there's only only a/b/o fic in doctor who fandom)(though it is in our pairing...)(anyway - as i understand it, this trope is pretty much all the random sex i do not want. with some additional weirdnesses. ho hum.)
