here are a bunch of words

I'm glad this was interesting, even at a quarter to six! It would be dull if my review was just like 'I liked the Eleventh Hour and The Talons of Weng-Chiang and my Doctor is Four or possibly Ten,' haha. Although I think my tremendous fondness for Two and Seven is predictable in a different way.

Aha, my secret ambivalence toward Five. It is only secret because for a long time I hadn't really SEEN any Five - I had watched The King's Demon's and that was pretty much it. So I didn't write of discuss Five, and looking back I can see that a lot of my D/M is Three/Delgado!Master or Shalka because of that.

I think the distinction between Five and Three for me is more about the eras of the program rather than the specific characteristics. I like my Who to be camp and silly, and Three-era gives me a lot of that whereas Five-era is part of this turn toward seriousness where people die and stuff. I actually think Three and Five have fairly similar personalities, but Three is given these stories where things look bleak and then he makes some devices and runs around and things turn out ok and the Master escapes again, while Five gets these stories where things look bleak and then he complains about them being bleak and then he tries to do something about it and then people die because that is life.

Or something like that. I would say that Mind of Evil is maybe my least favorite of the Delgado!Master serials - by which I mean, I still like it a lot but it is not as good as Daemons. I also just remembered that I saw Time-Flight with the B_E chat before I saw the rest of Five, and that is the sort of weird silly story that I would normally like, but at the time I was just confused. And I was in the middle of writing Honeymooners, where the name Kalid is this cool plot point, and I was disappointed that actually it was just picked at random for the Master's pseudo-oriental disguise.

So maybe it's all circumstantial? Idk.

End of Time is definitely the worst. Like, if you said to me 'would you want to watch an episode where the Master comes back from the dead via magic and his hair is bleached and the Doctor is chasing him except they're also bringing the Time Lords back and Rassilon is being a jerk and the Master is wearing a collar and also Donna's grandfather is hanging around?' I would be freaking out because YES. I mean, obviously. I was freaking out at the time. And then instead I got that mess :/
