I am a proponent of singular they, but it's not very widely used to refer to a specific person, which is a shame. German has a neutral pronoun (Es) which can refer to young women and children - but because of that, I would feel kind of infantilized if someone were to refer to me using 'es.' (Though I'm not a native speaker, so that might not be true in German culture generally).
My friend who speaks potawatomi says its singular third-person pronoun is inherently gender-neutral, which is what I really want, haha. For people not to have to think about gender when they're talking about me to others. But English!
